A story of hustle, learning, and rising through every level of the hospitality industry.
On any given day, while most people check into a hotel expecting comfort and seamless service, few pause to think about the intricate machinery working behind the scenes. For Utsav Sharma, that machinery isn’t just a system—it’s a story he has lived, step by step, department by department.
From long shifts on the service floor to taking on diverse operational and leadership responsibilities, Utsav’s journey in hospitality is not defined by shortcuts or sudden success. Instead, it is built on years of discipline, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to learning.

Growing Up with Hospitality
Raised in Nagpur, Utsav’s early life was shaped by exposure to different schools—Army Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and BJM Carmel. But beyond classrooms, his real education began at home.
His father, a hospitality professional, unknowingly became his first mentor. Watching him interact with people, build relationships, and navigate the fast-paced world of service left a lasting impression. Hospitality, for Utsav, was never just a career option—it was a calling rooted in lived experience.
Learning the Craft
Determined to follow this path, Utsav cleared the entrance examination conducted by the National Council for Hotel Management and secured admission at the Institute of Hotel Management, Hyderabad. It was here that his understanding of hospitality began to take shape—not just as a profession, but as a discipline that demands precision, patience, and people skills.
Years later, his pursuit of growth took him beyond borders to Canada, where he completed his post-graduation at Cyprus College. The international exposure added a new dimension to his perspective, helping him understand how hospitality varies across cultures while remaining rooted in the same fundamental principle—service.
The Oberoi Years: Where It All Began
Every professional journey has a defining chapter. For Utsav, that chapter began with The Oberoi Group in Mumbai.
Starting as a Food and Beverage Associate, he immersed himself in every opportunity that came his way. From banquets and in-room dining to specialty restaurants and butler service, he didn’t limit himself to a single role. Instead, he chose to learn everything.
One lesson from his time there stayed with him:
“Guest first, company second, colleagues third, and self last.”
It wasn’t just a value—it became a mindset.

Lessons Beyond Service
Working as a butler opened doors to experiences that few get early in their careers. Serving global personalities and renowned artists, Utsav observed not just their preferences, but their discipline and work ethic.
But beyond the glamour, the real learning came from the grind—long hours, high expectations, and the constant need to perform under pressure. There were moments of doubt, especially in the early days, when the demanding schedule felt overwhelming.
Yet, instead of stepping back, he leaned in.
The Turning Point
If the Oberoi years built his foundation, his time at Housr in Hyderabad became a turning point.
Stepping into roles beyond his comfort zone, Utsav transitioned into sales and front-office responsibilities—areas he had never formally worked in before. What could have been a setback became an opportunity.
Within months, he not only adapted but excelled, contributing significantly to the company’s revenue growth. It was a defining moment that reinforced a simple belief: skills can be learned, but mindset makes the difference.

A Versatile Hospitality Professional
Over the years, Utsav has worked across multiple roles and departments—food and beverage, guest services, sales, operations, and even culinary roles during his time abroad.
This wide-ranging experience has shaped him into a well-rounded professional who understands hospitality from the ground up. He believes that true growth in this industry comes from hands-on exposure and a willingness to step into unfamiliar roles.
“A hotel is not just one department—it’s a combination of many moving parts,” he reflects. “Understanding each part helps you see the bigger picture.”
Resilience in Uncertain Times
Like many in the hospitality industry, Utsav faced one of his toughest challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. With operations halted and uncertainty looming, the industry came to a standstill.

For someone accustomed to long, active workdays, the sudden pause was unsettling. Yet, it became a period of reflection—one that strengthened his resilience and reinforced his commitment to the field.
The Human Side of Hospitality
Behind the roles and achievements lies a reality that often goes unnoticed—sacrifice.
Festivals, family gatherings, and personal milestones often take a backseat in hospitality. Utsav recalls missing occasions like Diwali and Holi, not out of choice, but as part of the profession he committed to.
And yet, he holds no regret—only a sense of purpose.
Looking Ahead
Today, Utsav Sharma continues to evolve as a hospitality professional, actively exploring opportunities that allow him to take on greater leadership responsibilities and contribute at a larger scale.
With his diverse experience and strong foundation, his long-term vision is to build something of his own in the hospitality space—creating experiences that reflect both quality and authenticity.
A Message to the Next Generation
For those aspiring to enter the hospitality industry, his advice is simple yet powerful: stay focused, stay humble, and never stop learning.
Because in hospitality, every day is a new lesson, every guest is a new story, and every challenge is an opportunity in disguise.
