Qatar Airways has added another major accolade to its record at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, becoming the first recipient of the newly introduced “World’s Best Onboard Wi-Fi” award.
The Doha-based national carrier collected four awards at the ceremony held in London, including honours for World’s Best Business Class and Best Airline in the Middle East.
Qatar Airways has previously been named the world’s best airline nine times. However, it finished second in the overall global airline ranking this year, with Singapore Airlines taking the top position.
Speaking about the latest recognition, Qatar Airways Group CEO Hamad Al Khater said the awards reflected the efforts of the airline’s employees, while highlighting the carrier’s 13th win for World’s Best Business Class and its first-ever Wi-Fi award.
Skytrax Introduces New Wi-Fi Category
Skytrax introduced the World’s Best Onboard Wi-Fi category for the first time in 2026, citing the growing importance of fast and complimentary internet connectivity to the passenger experience.
Qatar Airways also secured the fourth position for World’s Best Airline Inflight Entertainment and ranked third among the World’s Best Economy Class Airlines.
How Indian Airlines Performed
Indian carriers also featured in the 2026 Skytrax results.
IndiGo won the titles of Best Low-Cost Airline in India & South Asia and Best Airline Cabin Crew in India & South Asia. Air India and Air India Express, both part of the Tata Group, also appeared in the rankings.
In the overall global airline ranking, Air India was placed 57th, improving from 82nd in the previous year. IndiGo ranked 61st, compared with 39th last year.
About The Skytrax World Airline Awards
London-based Skytrax has been conducting its airline and airport rating programmes since 1989. The World Airline Awards are based on passenger feedback collected through its annual global survey.
The 2025/26 survey, conducted between September 2025 and August 2026, included more than 300 airlines and passengers from over 100 nationalities.
Skytrax says it independently funds its survey and awards programme and does not charge airlines sponsorship or entry fees
